Antidote - Promising progress
Where we work
Parish Church CofE Nursery & Infant School
It has been a real eye-opener. We have all got a bit more insight into how the way we react impacts on other people. It makes you realise that you need to think about the whole picture. The result is that people are a lot more aware of each other and how to handle things appropriately
Antidote Strategy Group Member
For the staff at Parish Church Infant and Nursery School, participation in the PROGRESS Programme enabled them to build a much stronger sense of team through developing a more open environment, where difficult or challenging issues could be raised, discussed and effectively resolved.

Central to this development has been the opportunity provided by formation of an Antidote strategy group, which can bring together the perspectives of all the key staff groups within the school. The strategy group worked on systems for enabling staff to:
  • Get to know each other and build strong relationships
  • Give and receive positive feedback and affirmation
  • Become aware of each others perspectives
  • Talk openly issues that cause concern or opportunities that need seizing
The headteacher Janet Sullivan has encouraged the strategy group to continue meeting at a time when everyone can be released and covered.

This more open environment has helped staff respond creatively to student requests for:
  • More opportunity to work in groups on projects
  • The school council to be given a more important role in school life
  • Timetabled circle time as an opportunity to foster personal and social development
  • Opportunities put forward their own ideas when starting a new topic
